The New Dad Survival Guide
For the Dad Who’s Trying, and the Partner Who Wants to Help Him Feel Seen
“When was the last time someone asked how you’re really doing—and actually meant it?”
You love your family. You want to help. But sometimes it feels like no matter what you do, it still misses the mark.
This free audio guide and printable toolkit were created for the dads who are trying- the ones who want to show up better, lighten the load, connect deeper, and stop feeling like they’re one step behind.
It’s the stuff no one tells you- the identity shifts, the invisible labor, the way good intentions can miss, and how both partners can end up feeling unseen.
It’s a real conversation- honest, relatable, and actually helpful.
Created by therapist and mom of three, Heather Ratych, this resource helps dads understand what’s really happening in those early months- from the invisible mental load to their own mental health- and how to support their partner without losing themselves in the process.
What’s Inside
10-Minute Audio Guide: A down-to-earth conversation about fatherhood, partnership, and what’s really happening beneath the surface, filled with simple mindset shifts that make a big difference.
Before You Ask Checklist: A fridge-friendly reminder to help you anticipate, so you can step in without stepping on toes, and remove some of that mental load.
Dad Mental Health Check-In + Stats: Because your wellbeing matters too. Includes key facts about paternal PMADs and a short reflection to help you check in with yourself.
You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to stay in it.
This guide helps you do that-with empathy, humor, and practical insight you can actually use.

Hi, I'm Heather
I am a Registered Social Worker and the Owner and Clinical Director of Bloom Psychotherapy, a virtual perinatal and maternal mental health clinic that sees clients across Canada. I am a reproductive and perinatal mental health specialist who has extensive experience supporting those navigating infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, birth trauma, postpartum anxiety and depression, overwhelm and parenting challenges.
It was my experiences with difficulty conceiving, intense postpartum anxiety and medical trauma that led me to specialize in supporting individuals in their adjustment to parenthood. I am a mom of three who is passionate about helping individuals and couples thrive as they navigate the journey of fertility and parenthood, and in supporting them in feeling grounded, confident, and connected.
Send us a message so we can find the best fit for your care or answer your questions about how we can support you.
Our team of perinatal therapists are parents themselves and understand how complex this journey can be. They understand fertility, postpartum, and how the rest of our lives can affect these times.
